LED trailer lights offer a lot of advantages over incandescent lighting which is quickly becoming outdated. This article is going to take a closer look at some of these advantages and the reasons why replacing traditional light bulbs with LEDs may be a good idea.
An LED is a light emitting diode which uses semi conductor technology to release energy in the form of photons, or visible light. A traditional incandescent bulb creates light by having electricity flow through a filament causing it to get very hot to the point that it is glowing and giving off light. The problem with traditional incandescent bulbs is that more than 90% of the energy that they consume is lost as heat and a very small percentage of the energy is converted into useful light. Not only is this very wasteful but the intense heat causes the filaments to burn out rapidly at which point the bulbs would need to be replaced.
LED trailer lights are able to produce light with very little heat which means there is very little wasted energy. LED lights draw 10 times less amperage than standard incandescent light bulbs. LED lights can also last over 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs giving you up to 100,000 hours of light before they need to be replaced. When it comes to trailer lighting, heat is not the only enemy to the filaments of an incandescent bulb. Bumpy roads cause a lot of vibrations which will also shorten the life of an incandescent bulb. Vibration has no effect on the life of an LED bulb because there is no filament to break under these types of conditions.
The major drawback of LED trailer lights are that they are more expensive than traditional incandescent bulbs. However, when you consider how much longer they last and how much less energy they use, it is actually much more cost effective to go with LED lighting.
LED trailer lights are available in many different colors and can be used for tail lights, turn indicators, side markers, fender lights, or can be used to simply give your trailer a little more style by adding accent lights wherever you want them. If you are using a trailer for camping, LED lights are also a great option for interior lighting. Because they are far more energy efficient they are a great option for camping in areas where full hookups may not be available.
Although switching to LED trailer lights may cost a little more upfront than traditional incandescent bulbs, the fact that they are far more energy efficient and have a much greater life expectancy makes switching to LED lights a wise decision.
